Series of TV programmes about small towns in Russia to be shown in South America
Residents of Argentina will get acquainted with Russian culture and traditions through the history of the country's small towns. In March 2024, the Argentine digital media company AsiaTv launched on its online resources the screening of the television project "City of Stories" by TV BRICS International Media Network. Spanish dubbed episodes of the programme will be released over the next few months on Saturdays on AsiaTv's YouTube channel Humo y Espejos.
"Our goal is to strengthen co-operation and cultural ties between the countries of the Russian World and the Ibero-American Community, especially Argentina. Projects such as "City of Stories" bring us closer to this, as they not only showcase the beauty and heritage of Russia's cities, but also emphasise the importance of sustainable development, preserving the identity and hospitality that unites our peoples. This TV BRICS programme is not only a demonstration of the diversity and spiritual richness of the Russian World, but also a contribution to the creation of an interethnic cultural dialogue," said Ivone Alves Garcia, co-founder and general producer of AsiaTv.
Anastasia Shishkalova, Head of International Projects at TV BRICS, said that other partners of the media network in Latin America are also showing interest in the "City of Stories" films.
This programme is produced by TV BRICS. Two seasons of the project were released between 2022 and 2023, totalling 26 episodes of 25 minutes each. The authors told about the most interesting small towns of Central Russia, located in the Vladimir, Kaluga, Moscow, Ryazan, Tver and Yaroslavl regions. These include Suzdal, Vladimir, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Yaroslavl and Kostroma.
The project aims to promote the UN General Assembly's Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 (make cities and human settlements open, safe, resilient and environmentally sustainable), which was endorsed at the XV BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.
"City of Stories" has been adapted into English, Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish. Earlier, media partners of the international TV BRICS network showed the programme in China, South Africa, Brazil and Venezuela. In addition, the project's episodes are regularly published on their Internet platforms by diplomatic departments and cultural centres of the Russian Federation abroad, including the Russian Embassy in South Africa and the Russian House of Rossotrudnichestvo in Chennai (India).
