Electricity production from renewable sources reaches more than 92 per cent in Brazil

The Minister of Mines and Energy described the breakthrough as a demonstration of the reliability of the industry's system

"We can be proud that almost 93 per cent of the country's electricity was generated from renewable sources," Brazilian Mines and Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira said in a statement. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

The National Interconnected System recorded record electricity consumption in February, when the total load totalled 101,860 megawatts (MW), according to data from the National Electricity System Operator

The main sources were renewable energy: hydroelectric, wind, solar and distributed micro and mini generators, which accounted for 92.4 per cent of supply. For the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, the result of the National Interconnected System was another demonstration of "reliability".

The previous consumption record was set on 14 November 2023, when the total load was 101,475 MW. The day before, the total load exceeded the 100,000 MW mark for the first time.
